Video Services - Video Format Information
Here is some clarification about the different types of video formats we provide. Please do not hesitate to call or email with any questions:
- DVD – We provide one disc per videotape corresponding with deposition proceedings. DVDs can be
- MPEG-1 – Compressed constant bit-rate video file generally playable only on a computer. Approximately
- MPEG-2 – High-quality, variable bit-rate video file from which DVDs are authored. Only for use on
- VHS – Available upon request. VHS to digital conversion services also available.
played back on a set-top DVD player (i.e. what you have connected to your TV at home) and in a DVD drive on your computer. Advantages in compatibility are offset by difficulty in editing, synchronization and manipulability (significant lag in response time when “jumping around”).
seven hours of footage fit on one 4.7 GB DVD disc; plays with Windows Media Player. Typically used for trial presentation, synchronization and editing. computers (will not play on a set-top player). One DVD accommodates approximately about 1.5 hours of footage. Will only play on Windows Media Player if the codec included with DepoView is installed. Can also be used with synchronized transcripts. Larger file size means higher quality at the cost of convenience (will need multiple discs for depositions longer than 1.5 video-hours), compatibility and system performance (possible lag time and slower rendering).
